About the Porterville Church of Christ

Thank you for your interest in our church family. We are an assembly of Christians that come together to serve others, grow in our understanding of the Bible and worship God.

Our Beliefs

Love God, Love Others: (Matthew 22:37-39)

In all things, we desire to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind and stength; and to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Evangelism: (Matthew 28:19-20)

We desire to reach the lost within our community, to provide opportunites for individuals to meet and fall in love with Jesus.

Education: (2 Timothy 3:16)

We desire to grow in our knowledge and obedience of God's Word, and to provide opportunities for all our members and guests alike to come to a deeper understanding of the Bible.

Service: (1 Peter 4:10)

We desire to help those who are hurting, to confront the brokenness of this world in spiritual, physical and tangible ways.

Worship: (John 4:24)

We desire to praise and worship our God in spirit and in truth; and to provide an atmosphere where engaging, meaningful worship is encouraged.

The Bible teaches that there are five acts to worship:
  • Acappela Singing: Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16
  • Praying: 1 Thessalonians 5:17
  • Teaching: 2 Timothy 3:16
  • Giving: 1 Corinthians 16:1-2
  • Taking the Lord's Supper: 1 Corinthians 11:23-28

  • Fellowship: (1 Thessalonians 5:11)

We desire to connect with our fellow Christians in a meaningful way, and to provide opportunities for deeper relationships to occur.

    The Godhead

The Bible teaches there is a Godhead: Romans 1:20, Colossians 2:9, 1 John 5:7-8

The Error of Denominationalism (1 Corinthians 1:11-13)

The concept of denominationalism (many different churches, teaching many different doctrines) is not taught or sanctioned in the New Testament. Jesus promised and did build only "one body" or “one church”. (Matthew 16:18, Ephesians 1:22, 23, Ephesians 4:4). The concept of many different churches was absent in the First Century

    Gospel Plan of Salavation

In accordance with the Word of God, we teach the gospel plan of salvation as shown in the New Testament. In order to be saved an individual must:

  • Hear The Word: Romans 10:17
  • Believe The Word Of God And Its Teachings: Mark 16:16, Acts 8:4
  • Repent Of Their Sins: Luke 13:3, Acts 2:38, Acts 17:30
  • Confess Christ As Lord, Savior, Messiah, Redeemer. Matthew 10:33-33
  • Be Baptized For The Remission Of Sins And The Gift Of The Holy Spirit: Acts 2:38, Acts 5:32, Acts 22:16, Mark 16:16

  • YOU WILL ALWAYS FIND A FRIENDLY WELCOME AT THE CHURCH OF CHRIST

In a effort to reach the community, we are part of the House To House outreach program. We currently mail this publication to 1,000 houses around our building.
